Fire extinguishers are active fire protection devices used to extinguish or control small fires, often in emergency situations.
Typically, a fire extinguisher consists of a hand-held cylindrical pressure vessel containing an agent which can be discharged to extinguish a fire.
At Balance Systems Ltd, we are more than just experts in the field of fire safety. We also specialise in supplying and installing a wide array of fire safety equipment. We cater for residential and commercial clients and offer a wide variety of fire extinguishers to cover every situation. We make sure you have the most appropriate type of extinguisher for your specific environment.
Water fire extinguishers are a basic and economical type of fire extinguisher. They are not suitable for all types of fires, but if your company deals in flammable materials such as wood, paper and fabrics.
Suitable for the following Fire Classes:
Class A: Ordinary combustibles: wood, paper, cloth, rubber and plastics
With water fire extinguishers, water is dispersed in a fine mist. This is perfectly suited to prevent burning material from scattering and therefore spreading the fire. Mist, as opposed to a stream, can reduce the risk of electric shock.
H2O fire extinguishers are BSEN3 approved for Class A fires.
We provide quality, BSEN3 approved, carbon dioxide fire extinguishers. They all come with a 10-year warranty.
Suitable for the following Fire Classes:
Class B: Flammable Liquids; petrol, diesel, spirits, greases, oils & oil-based paints.
These fire extinguishers contain pressurised C02 gas meaning that they must be kept away from direct sunlight and radiators. When the extinguisher is activated, the carbon dioxide is discharged in a white cloud which puts out the fire by removing its oxygen.
They are not only effective in fighting Class B fires; they are also useful in fighting fires near to electrical equipment such as computers. As the C02 is harmless to the equipment they are very suitable for office environments.
Foam fire extinguishers are effective against Class A (wood, paper and cloth) and Class B fires (petrol, paraffin and oil). They work by starving the fire of oxygen. These extinguishers are not suitable for fires involving electrical devices.
Suitable for the following Fire Classes:
Class A: Ordinary combustibles: wood, paper, cloth, rubber and plastics
Class B: Flammable liquids: Oil, petrol, greases, oil-based paints
Foam (AFFF) fire extinguishers are an excellent choice when dealing with burning liquids and/or highly flammable materials like a synthetic fibre carpet.
Dry powder fire extinguishers are versatile ,multi-purpose fire extinguishers that can be successfully used to tackle class A, B & C fires. Specific environments and types of fire require specialist dry powder fire extinguishers. Please contact us for detailed information.
Suitable for the following Fire Classes:
Class A: Ordinary combustibles: wood, paper, cloth, rubber and plastics
Class B: Flammable liquids: Oil, petrol, greases, oil-based paints
Class C: Flammable gases: gas, propane and hydrogen
Dry powder extinguishers should be handled with care, to prevent inhaling any of the powder emitted; they are therefore not suitable for use in small, confined spaces. They are commonly used in flats, houses and most industrial settings.

Wet chemical fire extinguishers are specifically designed for suppressing class F fires from cooking oil or grease. In any type of commercial kitchen, grease fires may flare up, especially in deep fat fryers. Other kitchens with inexperienced and multiple users, such as those found in dormitories are good locations for a wet chemical fire extinguisher.
Suitable for the following Fire Classes:
Class F: Cooking fats, oils and electrical equipment.
The product is dispersed from the fire extinguisher in a fine mist, which immediately suppresses the flame. Then the chemical, usually potassium acetate, is activated to create a soapy film. This film seals the surface of the burning oil and cools it below the ignition temperature.
